Stereo Stickman – Wild – Song Review

Polly Baker is a singer and songwriter based in Los Angeles. She offers a beautiful array of uplifting music, loaded to the brim with positive vibes, and fabulous storytelling. The song ‘Wild’ has a gorgeous classic country feel to it, but with a completely modern and gentle core; a pleasant and natural switch up for such a timeless genre. This is music to lift your mood, to inspire you to get out and enjoy the world. Just what we need more of.

The song ‘Wild’ was co-written with Grammy-winning producer Dave Darling, and Polly’s long time friend Richard Wynne, otherwise known as Wildcard. The result is a smooth layer of guitar and a simple beat as the back drop, the basis for a song that slowly wraps itself around you; a soft yet powerful vocal tells the story in a sweet and effortless manner, and some perfectly placed harmonies keep the music sounding great throughout.

‘Wild’ is a really strong track; a catchy, stand out melody, with some superb imagery – particularly in the chorus – to really let you relax and escape as the song plays. “Whiskey eyes” was a personal favourite, but you have to listen for yourself to really appreciate the expression. This is a great piece of music to ease you into a peaceful, worry free evening – dancing with friends and loved ones, maybe, or a romantic night in with someone special.

“You keep me safe, and I’ll keep you wild.”

The Boot – Wild (Exclusive Premiere)

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Polly Baker is debuting the music video for her track “Wild” exclusively for readers of The Boot.

The “Wild” video, filmed on Manhattan Beach and in downtown Los Angeles, provides a fitting backdrop for the bubbly, West Coast-influenced pop-country song thanks to text overlays featuring snippets from the lyrics, vintage-inspired shots and Baker’s beyond-awesome purple sequin dress. The clip was directed by Andrew Franz and produced by Mike Dausend.

“I’m talkin’ purple skies, whiskey eyes, your lips all over mine / Just you and I,” Baker sings in the chorus of “Wild.” “Flashing lights, passing cars, like shooting stars on the boulevard / You keep me safe / And I’ll keep you wild.”

Baker wrote “Wild” with Richard Wynne and Dave Darling; the tune was also produced by Darling. Readers can press play above to watch its accompanying music video.

A Berklee College of Music graduate and country newcomer, Baker was born and raised in Virginia by a musical family. She started singing in church when she was four years old, picked up the piano a year later, and wrote her first song (called “Dreams”) at the ripe old age of 10. Baker honed her skills at local festivals and singing competitions while leading the praise and worship team at her church, performing for more than 10,000 folks every Sunday; she’s also shared the stage with acts such as Melissa Manchester and Chanel West Coast.

Baker’s self-titled EP, on which “Wild” appears, was released in June. The project is available for download via iTunes.
